China will start accepting visa applications from Indian travellers through an online portal from December 22, 2025, as per the news reports.
The Chinese Embassy said applicants will be able to complete forms and upload documents on the digital platform, removing the need to pre-book appointments at visa centres. Ambassador Xu Feihong shared the update on X, along with the link to the official website.
This comes at a time when travel between the 2 countries is gradually picking up. In the first three months of 2025, Chinese missions issued over 85,000 visas to Indian citizens.
China is also continuing its revised visa fee structure for Indians, which will remain in place until December 31, 2025.
India resumed issuing tourist visas for Chinese travellers in November 2025, ending a suspension that lasted more than 5 years.
Business visas had already resumed earlier. The Ministry of External Affairs said that tourist, business and related categories are now being processed as usual.
Direct commercial flights between the 2 countries restarted in October 2025, returning after being halted since early 2020. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra also resumed in June 2025, adding another route for movement between the two sides.
Restrictions were put in place following the Galwan Valley clash in May 2020, which sharply affected exchanges.
High-level meetings through 2024 and 2025, including discussions at the BRICS Summit in Kazan and the SCO Summit in Tianjin, focused on managing the border situation and restoring regular channels.

With the online visa process set to begin and travel routes reopening, both countries are bringing back procedures that had been disrupted for several years.
