China has rolled out an online visa application system for Indian travellers, effective December 20, 2025. The new platform allows applicants to complete visa forms and upload required documents digitally, reducing time spent during initial processing stages.
This initiative aims to streamline procedures and enhance convenience for travellers. The Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in New Delhi will continue to assist applicants alongside the online system.
Under the updated process, applicants must create or log in to their accounts on the official website. They are required to fill out the visa application form online and upload all supporting documents digitally.
Physical submission of passports and documents at the Visa Application Service Centre will only be permitted after the application status shows “online review completed” and a confirmation email is received. This step ensures that preliminary checks are completed before in-person visits, reducing waiting times.
The introduction of the online system is seen as a measure to promote people-to-people exchanges and facilitate smoother travel between India and China. By digitising the initial stages of visa processing, authorities aim to improve efficiency and reduce paperwork.
The move aligns with broader efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and encourage tourism and business travel. It also reflects a growing trend of digital transformation in consular services worldwide.
India resumed issuing tourist visas to Chinese nationals globally in November 2025, following earlier issuance of business visas. These steps are part of confidence-building measures agreed by both countries in 2025.
Other initiatives include the resumption of direct commercial flights and the revival of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra. Together, these actions signal a gradual normalisation of travel and cultural exchanges after previous disruptions.
