In a key development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has approved a fresh employment scheme for women. The initiative, titled "Chief Minister Women’s Employment Scheme," offers an initial ₹10,000 to support women starting self-employment ventures.

Scheme Aims to Uplift Women with ₹10,000 Initial Support

During a cabinet meeting, the Bihar government approved financial assistance of ₹10,000 for one eligible woman per family under a new employment scheme. This support is aimed at helping women launch small-scale employment initiatives of their choice. Fund disbursements will begin from September 2025 and will be directly transferred to the beneficiaries' bank accounts.

Potential Additional Aid of up to ₹2,00,000 After Evaluation

A key feature of this scheme is its follow-up mechanism. 6 months after starting their business or employment activity, beneficiaries will undergo an assessment. Based on this review, they may receive further assistance of up to ₹2,00,000 if required, ensuring longer-term growth and stability for women's ventures.

Direct Benefit Transfer and Monitoring Framework

The scheme will rely on Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to ensure transparency. Funds will go straight into women's accounts, avoiding any middlemen. Additionally, the government has outlined a monitoring plan to evaluate the scheme’s outcomes and provide further support effectively.

Conclusion

With this employment support initiative, the Bihar government is seeking to strengthen economic opportunities for women. Through ₹10,000 in initial support and further eligibility-based aid up to ₹2,00,000, this move aims to boost employment and social welfare ahead of the 2025 state elections.
