Healthcare, education and public infrastructure projects worth more than ₹4,700 crore were inaugurated and launched in Chandigarh on Friday.

The projects include new facilities at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and were unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the city after attending an event in Haryana.

Union Health Minister J P Nadda, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, and Congress MP Manish Tewari attended the event.

PGIMER Adds Two New Centres

At the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Modi inaugurated the Advanced Mother and Child Centre and the Advanced Neurosciences Centre. The Mother and Child Centre has 300 beds and will provide treatment for women, infants and children.

The Advanced Neurosciences Centre brings together neurology, neurosurgery, neuro-critical care and diagnostic services in one facility. PGIMER said the building will also be used for teaching, training and research in neurosciences.

Foundation Stone for Critical Care Block

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for a 150-bed Critical Care Block under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM). The block will be built on the PGIMER campus and will add intensive care capacity at the institute once completed.

Haryana Visit Before Chandigarh

Earlier in the day, Modi launched a series of projects in Haryana covering highways, railway infrastructure and healthcare. These included a section of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, the Ambala-Kala Amb Highway, the Jind-Gohana Greenfield Highway and an elevated railway track at Kurukshetra.

He also inaugurated government medical institutions in Bhiwani and Narnaul and laid the foundation stone for a Sikh Museum in Kurukshetra.
