The Ministry of Tourism has approved 117 tourism infrastructure projects worth ₹5,756.62 crore over the past two years as part of its efforts to strengthen India's tourism ecosystem. The projects, sanctioned under multiple flagship schemes, aim to improve connectivity, enhance visitor amenities and develop tourist destinations across the country.

Alongside infrastructure investments, the government is expanding digital tourism services, promoting destinations globally and simplifying travel for international visitors through an expanded e-Visa programme.

₹5,756 Crore Sanctioned Under Key Tourism Schemes

The approved projects have been sanctioned under flagship initiatives such as Swadesh Darshan 2.0, Challenge Based Destination Development, PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive), Assistance to Central Agencies for Tourism Infrastructure Development, and Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA-JUGA).

In addition, the Centre has extended financial assistance to states under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme for the development of Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale.

The government expects these investments to improve tourism infrastructure, create better visitor facilities and promote balanced tourism development across regions.

Government Expands Digital Tourism and Global Promotion

To improve the travel experience, the Ministry has strengthened the Incredible India Digital Platform, a multilingual portal and mobile application that offers destination information, curated travel content and integrated booking services for flights, hotels, transport and Archaeological Survey of India monument tickets.

The government is also promoting India as a global tourism destination through digital campaigns, collaborations with social media influencers, participation in international tourism fairs and roadshows.

Meanwhile, the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative continues to showcase India's cultural diversity through student exchange programmes, tourism events and cuisine festivals.

Expanded e-Visa Facility to Support Tourist Arrivals

As part of efforts to improve ease of travel, the government has expanded the e-Visa facility across nine visa categories for citizens of 174 countries.

The move is expected to make India more accessible to international travellers while supporting higher foreign tourist arrivals.
