In a move to ease passenger rush during the festive period, Central Railway will operate 1,702 special trains from key stations across Maharashtra for Diwali and Chhath Puja celebrations. This initiative aims to facilitate smoother travel to the northern and eastern parts of India.
Central Railway announced that 1,702 special trains will be operational during the Diwali and Chhath Puja period. These trains will depart from major stations including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Pune, Kolhapur, and Nagpur.
Over 800 of the trains will cater to high-demand routes connecting Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and northeastern states, offering relief to thousands of passengers travelling home for festivities.
To manage the increased footfall, Central Railway has set up extra ticket counters and developed holding areas with a capacity to accommodate over 3,000 passengers each. These areas are equipped with basic facilities, including water, food, fans, and toilets to ensure passenger comfort and safety. Mobile UTS booking is enabled for hassle-free ticket purchasing, reducing overcrowding at booking stations.

Over 20 social media accounts have been identified for spreading misleading content, prompting legal action. Alongside operational enhancements, railway authorities have adopted a 24/7 surveillance system to monitor station activity and prevent untoward incidents. Following recent passenger safety concerns, measures, including the installation of closing doors in Mumbai locals, have also been implemented. These safety upgrades reaffirm Central Railway's commitment to safer and more convenient festive travel.
