Bharat Taxi, a cooperative-driven ride-hailing service, is set for its official launch in Delhi and select cities by the end of January, following a positive response during its soft launch in the national capital, as per PTI report.
The platform is positioned as an alternative to private aggregators, with a focus on driver ownership and cooperative-led operations.
The digital platform, operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Ltd, was introduced on a pilot basis in Delhi in early December 2024. Since then, the service has been logging an average of around 5,500 rides per day across cab, auto and bike segments.
Of these, nearly 4,000 rides originate from airport trips, while the remaining come from other parts of the city. More than 1.4 lakh drivers have already registered on the app, indicating strong participation from the driver community.
Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Ltd is promoted by eight major cooperative institutions, including Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation, Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative, KRIBHCO, National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation, National Dairy Development Board, National Cooperative Exports Limited, National Cooperative Development Corporation and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. The board also includes 2 elected driver representatives.
The platform follows a zero-commission structure, allowing drivers to retain their full fare earnings, with any surplus generated by the cooperative distributed back to members.
Bharat Taxi offers app-based ride booking, transparent pricing, real-time vehicle tracking, multi-lingual support and 24×7 customer assistance.
The platform has also been integrated with public transit systems such as the Metro, enabling users to plan and book multi-modal journeys through a single interface. A safety collaboration with Delhi Police has been put in place to enhance rider and driver security.
