German chemical company BASF has announced plans to expand its presence in India by setting up a global services hub in Hyderabad.

The proposed facility will support key corporate functions such as finance and human resources, reflecting the company’s broader strategy to strengthen its operational capabilities and global support infrastructure.

Expansion Plans in Hyderabad

BASF has signed a letter of intent with the Telangana government to establish the new hub in Hyderabad. The company has initiated the process of identifying suitable land for the facility and is working towards making it operational by the fourth quarter of 2026.

This development follows its earlier announcement of a global digital hub in the same city, indicating a continued focus on Hyderabad as a strategic location.

Employment and Hiring Strategy

The planned facility is expected to generate approximately 3,000 jobs. Recruitment will be carried out in phases, beginning with the formation of initial teams to support early operations.

The hiring approach suggests a gradual scale-up aligned with the hub’s operational requirements over time.

Role of the Global Services Hub

The Hyderabad centre will primarily handle global finance and human resources functions. These services are part of BASF’s global business services network, which already employs a significant workforce across different regions.

The new hub is expected to enhance the company’s ability to manage centralised functions efficiently.

BASF’s Global Presence

BASF operates in more than 200 countries and reports annual revenues of approximately $60 billion (around ₹5 lakh crore).

The company employs over 108,000 people worldwide. Within its global business services segment, BASF currently has around 2,900 employees in finance roles and about 1,500 in human resources.

Position Among Existing Hubs

The Hyderabad facility will become BASF’s fourth global services hub. The company already operates similar centres in Berlin, Kuala Lumpur, and Montevideo.

The addition of Hyderabad reflects a broader geographical diversification of its service operations.

BASF’s decision to establish a global services hub in Hyderabad indicates a steady expansion of its operational footprint in India.
