Banks to Remain Open Ahead of Proposed Three-Day Nationwide Strike on September 27, 2026

Public Sector Banks (PSBs) and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) will remain operational on Sunday, September 27, 2026, according to a PIB report citing the Ministry of Finance.
This comes ahead of a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike scheduled from September 28 to 30, 2026.
RBI Approves Extended Operations
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the functioning of all bank branches and offices on September 27, 2026. The approval also covers ATM-link branches and Currency Chests, allowing these facilities to remain fully operational on the day.
Strike Follows Weekend Holidays
The decision has been taken as September 26 and 27 fall immediately before the proposed strike period. With the strike beginning on Monday, September 28, the combination of weekend holidays and three days of industrial action could otherwise have extended the period during which customers may have limited access to banking services.
The proposed strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and is scheduled to continue until September 30.
Measures to Maintain Banking Services
The Ministry of Finance said the arrangements were made to prevent the banking requirements of citizens from being affected for an extended period. Keeping PSBs and RRBs open on September 27 is part of the measures being taken ahead of the proposed strike.
The RBI's approval covering branches, offices, ATM-link branches and Currency Chests is intended to keep essential banking operations available on the Sunday before the strike.
Government Appeals to Unions
The government and bank managements have also appealed to the UFBU to defer the proposed strike. At the same time, steps have been put in place to maintain essential banking services during the period.

Conclusion
PSBs and RRBs will therefore operate normally on September 27, while the RBI-approved banking facilities will also remain functional. The arrangement comes ahead of the proposed September 28–30 strike and follows the September 26–27 weekend holidays.
