Bank Strike: Central Government Employees, Pensioners to Get September Payments on September 25, 2026

The central government employees and pensioners will receive their September 2026 salary and pension on September 25, ahead of the proposed nationwide bank strike scheduled from September 28 to 30, 2026, according to news reports.
The early payment follows concerns over possible disruption to banking transactions during the three-day strike. This comes just before the end of September and the close of the current quarter.
Finance Ministry Issues Order
The Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, issued an Office Memorandum on September 23, 2026, regarding the advance disbursement. The order followed information from the Department of Financial Services on the likely impact of the bank strike on banking operations.
Under the order, September salary and wage payments can be drawn and disbursed on Friday, September 25, instead of the normal payment date.
Employees Covered
The advance payment covers central government employees, including those working in Defence, Posts and Telecommunications. Industrial employees of the central government will also receive their September wages on September 25.
The arrangement extends to central government pensioners. Their September 2026 pension can be paid by the concerned banks or Pay and Accounts Offices (PAOs) on the same date.
Adjustment to Be Made in October
The payment made on September 25, 2026, will be treated as an advance payment of the September salary, wages, or pension. It is not an additional payment for employees or pensioners.
If any difference needs to be adjusted after the full month's amount is determined, the government has said it will be recovered from the October 2026 salary or wages.
Other September Transactions
The CGA memorandum noted that the proposed strike coincides with the closing days of the current quarter. Ministries and departments have therefore been advised to process payments and other banking transactions falling towards the end of September in advance, wherever feasible.
The Reserve Bank of India has also been asked to communicate the payment instructions to the paying branches of banks.
