As per news reports, Apple’s iPhone shipments from India to the US will not be impacted by the latest 25% tariffs imposed on Indian imports by the Trump administration. Smartphones, along with computers and other electronic devices, were excluded from the tariff list announced in April 2025.

India Now a Major iPhone Supplier

India has become the top exporter of iPhones to the US, overtaking China. The country now accounts for more than 5th of global iPhone production. Apple has been steadily expanding its local manufacturing footprint over the past 4 years.

Apple’s production growth in India has aligned with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The company’s presence has been cited by officials to attract interest from other global manufacturers, including electric vehicle and semiconductor firms.

No Immediate Impact from Section 232 Probes

As per news reports, the US Commerce Department is reviewing key sectors like semiconductors under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act. Until the investigations conclude, smartphones remain exempt from additional tariffs. This means iPhones made in India continue to enter the US market without extra duties.

Trump Administration’s Position Still Evolving

Though the tariff announcement has been made, discussions between the US and India are ongoing. There is no certainty on whether exemptions will remain or be removed later, as trade policies remain subject to change.

Conclusion

At present, Apple’s India exports are unaffected by the new tariffs. However, ongoing trade reviews and evolving policies could influence future production and pricing decisions. For now, iPhone shipments from India to the US continue without disruption.
