Airports Authority of India (AAI) has outlined a multi-year capital programme to strengthen air navigation systems and upgrade air traffic management infrastructure nationwide, as per PTI report.

₹3,490 Crore Capital Outlay for 2026–2028

The Airports Authority of India has allocated ₹3,490 crore for modernisation of Communication, Navigation and Surveillance and Air Traffic Management infrastructure across airports during 2026–2028. AAI is the country’s sole Air Navigation Service Provider.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol informed the Lok Sabha, “AAI has earmarked a capital outlay of approximately ₹3,490 crore during the period 2026-2028 for the modernisation of Communication, Navigation and Surveillance / Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) infrastructure at various airports across the country.

Out of the said expenditure, around ₹1,532 crore pertains to automation of ATM systems across airports.”

Cyber Security Push and Manpower Addition

Separately, AAI has issued a Request for Proposal to IIT Madras to appoint a consultant for strengthening the cyber security framework of OT and IT systems at its airports.

The consultancy will cover formulation of cyber security architecture and assessment of manpower requirements for cyber security verticals within AAI.

The focus on system resilience follows a glitch in the air traffic control system in November last year that disrupted operations at Delhi airport.

To support operational continuity and safety, AAI has recruited 2,341 technical executive posts over the last 3 years.
