The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a waiver of the ₹75 charge for updating email addresses via the Aadhaar mobile application. This initiative, effective from July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026, aims to encourage more Aadhaar number holders to update their details.
Starting July 1, 2026, users can update their Aadhaar-linked email addresses free of charge via the Aadhaar mobile application. The ₹75 fee will remain waived until December 31, 2026, allowing individuals to maintain up-to-date contact information without incurring costs.
This waiver applies exclusively to updates made through the mobile app. Other update methods likely to continue to incur charges, which users can verify on UIDAI's official channels.
Users must download the Aadhaar mobile application and ensure it is updated on their smartphone (Android version 9.0 or above and iOS version 16.0 or above). The email update process involves providing user details and selecting the 'Verify Email Address' option.
Besides email updates, the Aadhaar app offers a range of services including mobile and address updates, biometric lock/unlock, checking authentication history, and downloading e-Aadhaar.
Users can also utilise services like sharing contact cards and verifying credentials through the app.
