Silver prices surged sharply on Monday, crossing the ₹2,50,000 per kg mark on the MCX for the first time. March silver futures jumped nearly 6%, hitting an all-time high of around ₹2,54,174 per kg.

By around 9:40 AM, silver was trading near ₹2,51,746 per kg, up nearly 5% on the day.

Global Rally Fuels Domestic Prices

The rally in India mirrored strong gains in international markets. Spot silver crossed the $80 per ounce level earlier in the session before cooling off due to profit booking, after a massive rise of over 180% this year.

Despite the small pullback, silver remains the best-performing asset of 2025, far outperforming gold.

Silver Beats Gold and Even Nvidia

In 2025 so far, silver has gained 181%, leaving gold far behind. The total market value of silver has climbed to about $4.65 trillion, briefly overtaking Nvidia’s $4.63 trillion valuation, making silver more valuable than the world’s largest listed company.

What Is Driving Silver Prices Higher?

Supply Shortage and Rising Industrial Demand

Silver has been in a structural supply deficit for the last 7 years. At the same time, industrial demand jumped sharply in 2025 due to:

  • Solar and renewable energy expansion
  • Electric vehicle adoption
  • Growth in electronics manufacturing

This demand-supply imbalance has pushed prices higher.

Rate Cut Hopes and Global Uncertainty

Expectations of US interest rate cuts, along with easier global monetary policies, have made non-yielding assets like silver more attractive.

Silver has also benefited from safe-haven demand amid global uncertainty, trade tensions, tariff risks and ongoing geopolitical conflicts.

Conclusion

Silver’s record-breaking rally in 2025 has been driven by strong industrial demand, supply shortages and global uncertainties. Investors should stay balanced, avoid overexposure, and align silver investments with their overall risk appetite rather than chasing short-term gains.
