Crude Oil Prices Rise as Houthi-Saudi Arabia Clashes Raise Supply Concerns | October 14, 2026

Crude oil prices climbed on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as traders weighed rising supply risks from fighting between Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis and Saudi Arabia against the prospect of increased Russian diesel exports.
Brent crude futures rose 89 cents, or 0.8%, to $106.58 a barrel by 0030 GMT. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures gained 80 cents, or 0.9%, to $94.94 a barrel. In the previous session, Brent fell 0.9%, while WTI gained 0.4%.
Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia Raise Supply Concerns
Saudi Arabia’s energy ministry said the Houthis attacked an administrative building belonging to state-owned oil company Saudi Aramco in Dhahran on Wednesday, causing a limited fire.
The attacks followed a week of ballistic missile and drone strikes by the Houthis in retaliation for Saudi Arabia’s support for Yemeni government forces. Riyadh’s international airport has been hit four times, with a strike on Saturday killing 13 people.
The escalation has added to concerns about potential disruptions to oil production and shipments across the Middle East, a key region for global energy supplies.
Saudi Production Increase Adds to Market Developments
Saudi Arabia increased oil production last month despite disruptions to shipments caused by the US-Iran war. The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its partners, collectively known as OPEC+, recorded a sharp increase in production, according to OPEC on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Iran is deploying new tactics to target ships in the Strait of Hormuz, seeking to keep oil prices high and influence US midterm elections, two senior Iranian officials told Reuters.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a crucial route for global oil shipments, making developments in the region significant for energy markets.

Russian Diesel Exports in Focus
Russia's government said on Tuesday that it saw no direct link between peace talks with Ukraine and its agreement to export diesel to the United States.
The statement followed a Reuters report that US envoys had told Ukrainian officials the deal formed part of an effort to bring Russia back to negotiations over a peace settlement.
The prospect of increased Russian diesel exports could ease pressure on fuel supplies and temper further movements in oil prices.
Conclusion
Crude oil prices remain sensitive to developments in the Middle East, particularly attacks on Saudi infrastructure and risks to shipping routes. Expectations of higher Russian diesel exports and changes in OPEC+ production are also shaping market conditions.
