Crude Oil Prices Rise as Fresh US Military Action Against Iran Raises Supply Concerns (October 30, 2026)

Crude oil prices rose in Asian trading on Friday, October 30, 2026, as reports of possible fresh US military action against Iran raised concerns over supply disruptions. The developments also cast uncertainty over ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
Brent crude futures for December delivery gained 0.7% to US$115.72 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures advanced 0.8% to US$102.77 per barrel as of 21:18 ET (01:18 GMT).
Both benchmarks were on track to record a fourth consecutive monthly gain of more than 10%.
Fresh US Military Action Raises Tensions
The Wall Street Journal reported that US Central Command chief Admiral Brad Cooper briefed President Donald Trump on military options concerning Iran at the White House on Thursday. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
Discussions reportedly covered the ongoing US blockade and the possibility of renewed major combat operations, adding uncertainty to efforts to reach a diplomatic settlement.
Diplomatic Efforts Face Uncertainty
Washington has continued contacts with Tehran in an attempt to restart negotiations and end the conflict. US Vice President JD Vance reportedly contacted Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei, while mediators worked on a possible framework for an agreement.
However, Tehran has reportedly rejected a proposed settlement. Trump also indicated that further military action remained possible, saying on Wednesday that "anything's possible" when questioned about potential strikes after the November 3 US midterm elections.
Strait of Hormuz Remains a Supply Concern
Developments around the Strait of Hormuz remain important for global oil supplies. Saudi Arabia's air defences intercepted another ballistic missile launched by Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi movement towards the kingdom's Eastern Province, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The incident followed Houthi claims of an attack on the Ras Tanura refinery earlier in the week, keeping concerns over regional energy infrastructure in focus.

US Crude Inventories Fall
US commercial crude inventories declined by 1.9 million barrels in the week ended October 23, 2026, reaching 410.6 million barrels, according to the Energy Information Administration. The fall came despite expectations of a modest increase.
Conclusion
Oil prices remain influenced by developments surrounding Iran, regional security concerns and US inventory figures. Uncertainty over diplomatic negotiations and potential military action continues to affect supply expectations, while higher energy costs have added to concerns about inflation and the outlook for central banks.
