Crude oil prices rose on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, after a reported attack on a major Saudi Arabian refinery renewed concerns about potential supply disruptions in the Middle East, as per news reports. The incident heightened tensions linked to the conflict involving Iran and its regional allies.

Brent crude futures gained US$1.48, or 1.3%, to US$115.36 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude rose US$1.22, or 1.22%, to US$101.12 as of 01:40 GMT.

Attack on Saudi Refinery Raises Supply Concerns

Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi group said on Tuesday that it had struck Saudi Arabia's largest oil refinery with a missile. The reported attack intensified concerns about energy infrastructure security in Saudi Arabia, one of the world's leading oil producers.

Saudi authorities had not immediately confirmed the strike on the facility, which has a processing capacity of 550,000 barrels per day. Uncertainty surrounding the incident added to concerns about the potential impact on regional crude supplies.

Oil Prices Recover After Previous Session's Decline

Oil prices rebounded after falling by nearly US$2 a barrel on Tuesday, when developments in Middle East talks helped ease concerns about supply disruptions.

The latest gains came despite expectations of an increase in US crude inventories. A Reuters poll of eight analysts indicated that US crude stockpiles rose by approximately 15,000 barrels in the week ended October 23.

OPEC+ Output Plans Remain in Focus

OPEC+ oil-producing countries are expected to maintain their December production targets at Sunday's meeting, according to three people familiar with the matter who spoke to Reuters.

Production in most of the seven core OPEC+ members: Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Algeria, Kazakhstan and Oman remain below their respective output targets.

Russian Oil Exports Face Potential Decline

Crude oil exports from Russia's Baltic and Black Sea ports could fall next month as domestic refineries increase diesel production. Traders said the anticipated shift follows an agreement with Washington reached earlier in October.

Any reduction in Russian exports could add another variable to global supply conditions as markets assess geopolitical developments and production levels among major oil-producing countries.

Conclusion

Crude oil prices strengthened following the reported attack on Saudi Arabia's refinery, bringing Middle East supply risks back into focus. Traders are also monitoring US inventory figures, the upcoming OPEC+ meeting and potential changes in Russian oil exports for further direction.
