Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), one of India’s leading renewable energy players, has achieved two major milestones. The company has been certified water positive across its full operational portfolio, becoming the world’s first renewable Independent Power Producer (IPP) to reach this level of water stewardship. Simultaneously, a wholly owned subsidiary has entered a 25-year agreement to supply 400 MW of solar power to Uttar Pradesh, reinforcing AGEL’s twin focus on sustainability and strategic business growth.
AGEL has reached water positive status across its operational capacity of more than 14 GW, a year ahead of its FY26 target. The certification was awarded by global assurance firm Intertek following extensive audits across 103 power generation sites and 85 water conservation sites, as per news reports.
This achievement makes AGEL the first and only renewable energy IPP among the top 10 global players to become water positive.
Being water positive means AGEL replenishes more freshwater into the environment than it consumes. This is particularly critical in water-stressed zones where many of its solar and wind installations are located, such as Khavda and the Thar desert in Gujarat.
AGEL’s water conservation work includes:
In total, the water saved and replenished is equivalent to 467 Olympic-sized swimming pools, surpassing the half-yearly water requirement of the Lakshadweep Islands.
In addition to being water positive, AGEL has achieved certifications across its operational portfolio for being single-use plastic-free, and zero waste-to-landfill.
These integrated efforts are part of AGEL’s broader commitment to environmental leadership, particularly in India, where per capita freshwater availability is critically low.

Adani Green Energy Sixty Nine Ltd, a step-down subsidiary of AGEL, has signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL).
The agreement is for the supply of 400 MW of solar power from a grid-connected photovoltaic project located in Rajasthan. The tariff has been set at ₹2.57 per kWh, aligning with competitive market rates and supporting Uttar Pradesh’s renewable energy goals.
AGEL’s latest PPA comes on the heels of financial performance in FY25:
In the same period, AGEL added 3,309 MW of new renewable capacity, boosting its total operational portfolio by 30% to 14.2 GW.
With these developments, AGEL continues to pursue its long-term target of achieving 45 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The company is positioning itself as one of the world’s largest renewable energy developers and a key player in India's transition to clean power.
On May 9, 2025, Adani Green’s share price (NSE: ADANIGREEN) opened at ₹859.40, lower than its previous close at ₹880.50. On the same day Adani Green’s share price closed at ₹883.90, up by 0.39% on the NSE.
AGEL’s water positive certification and new solar PPA with UPPCL represent a clear alignment of sustainability and business strategy. These twin achievements not only bolster its market position but also contribute meaningfully to India’s renewable energy and resource conservation goals.
