Industry Outlook
The Ayurvedic formulations and nutraceuticals industry operates at the intersection of healthcare, pharmaceuticals and wellness. It includes classical Ayurvedic preparations, proprietary herbal remedies and dietary supplements containing botanicals, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids and probiotics.
Products are available in formats such as softgels, tablets, capsules, syrups, powders and medicated oils, catering to areas including fertility, bone and joint care, metabolic and cardiovascular health, urology, nephrology, neurocognitive development, paediatrics and general wellness.
Global healthcare spending accounts for around 10% of global GDP, highlighting the scale of healthcare demand. Healthcare expenditure accounted for 16.53% of GDP in the US, 12.32% in Japan, 11.60% in Switzerland and 11.10% in the UK, compared with 3.31% in India in 2022.
The global nutraceuticals market was valued at around USD 455 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach approximately USD 503 billion in 2025. It is expected to grow to around USD 772–775 billion by 2029, implying a CAGR of about 11%.
North America accounted for around 36% of the global nutraceuticals market, followed by Asia-Pacific at 26%, Europe at 23% and South America at 10%. Asia-Pacific is supported by urbanisation, rising disposable incomes and the region’s established traditional medicine practices.
The global Ayurvedic products market was estimated at USD 15.48 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 65.58 billion by 2034, representing a CAGR of 15.53%. Demand is being supported by growing interest in plant-based, clean-label and standardised healthcare products.
India is an important manufacturing and consumption market for nutraceuticals. The Indian nutraceuticals market was estimated at around USD 30.37–30.40 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach approximately USD 34.50 billion in 2025, USD 74.66 billion by 2030 and USD 123.48 billion by 2035.

India accounts for approximately 80% of global Ayurvedic practice and production. The Indian AYUSH market was valued at more than USD 50 billion in 2024, including around USD 24 billion from manufacturing and USD 26 billion from services, and is projected to reach USD 200 billion by 2030.
The Indian Ayurvedic products market was valued at around ₹62,600 crore in 2022 and is projected to reach approximately ₹1,82,400 crore by 2028, implying a CAGR of 19.3%.
Exports of AYUSH and herbal products reached approximately ₹5,907 crore in FY25, registering 5.86% growth in value and 21.46% growth in volume year-on-year.
Government support is contributing to the development of the sector. The FY26 Union Budget allocated ₹3,992.9 crore to the Ministry of AYUSH, while initiatives such as PLI, PMKSY and PMFME support manufacturing, research and sector development.
The expansion of e-commerce, direct-to-consumer channels, teleconsultation and subscription-based purchasing is creating additional distribution opportunities for nutraceutical and Ayurvedic products.
The sector continues to face intense competition and market fragmentation, with established FMCG and healthcare companies, regional manufacturers and digital-first brands competing across product categories.
Raw material availability and price volatility remain key challenges due to dependence on seasonal herbs and certain imported active ingredients, while climate-related disruptions can affect sourcing.
Companies also face compliance requirements under FSSAI and AYUSH regulations, along with manufacturing standards such as Schedule M and WHO-GMP, which can increase compliance and production costs.

Risks and Threats of Himalaya Nutravedics India IPO
Single Manufacturing Facility & Leased Premises: Production is concentrated at a single facility in Hyderabad, Telangana, exposing operations to regional disruptions and natural disasters. The facility is also leased, and any termination or dispute could affect business operations.
High Customer Concentration: The top 10 customers contributed 81.24% of revenue in FY26, compared with 86.97% in FY25 and 84.19% in FY24. The absence of long-term customer contracts exposes the company to order cancellations, delays, or reductions.
Supplier Concentration: A significant portion of raw materials is sourced from the top 10 suppliers without long-term contractual arrangements, creating exposure to supply disruptions.
Heavy Revenue Concentration in Ayurvedic Products: Ayurvedic products accounted for 94.57% of operating revenue in FY26, compared with 92.09% in FY25 and 79.27% in FY24. A decline in demand for these products could affect revenue and profitability.
Intellectual Property & Trademark Opposition: The company's primary wordmark applications, including Himalaya Nutravedics - SUPPLEMENTS THAT HEAL and Himalaya Nutravedics, face opposition under Class 5. Failure to secure or enforce these rights could affect its brand identity.
Direct-to-Consumer - D2C - Expansion Risks: The planned D2C expansion requires investments in digital marketing, logistics, and IT infrastructure, with no assurance that these investments will result in higher customer acquisition, repeat orders, or profitability.
Potential Conflicts of Interest in Contract Manufacturing: Some third-party contract manufacturing clients operate in similar product and therapeutic categories. This could create perceived competition with the company's own brands and may affect client relationships or order volumes.
Limited Operating History: Incorporated in 2022, the company has a relatively short operating history compared with established industry participants, which may affect prescriber loyalty and institutional relationships.
Inventory Management & Product Shelf-Life: Inaccurate demand forecasting may result in excess inventory or stockouts. Unsold products nearing expiry can lead to losses, while expired product returns from stockists can affect margins.
Intense Competition: The Ayurvedic and nutraceutical markets include established brands, FMCG companies, regional players, and unorganised manufacturers, creating competition on pricing and distribution.
Raw Material Price Volatility & Sourcing: Dependence on botanical extracts and imported active ingredients exposes the company to seasonal availability, climatic disruptions, and price fluctuations.
Evolving Regulatory Frameworks: Compliance with requirements under FSSAI and the Ministry of AYUSH, including raw material testing, labelling, and quality standards, may increase operational costs.
Macroeconomic & Regional Disruptions: Public health emergencies, regional disruptions, and economic downturns could affect consumer demand and domestic distribution.
Promoter Dependence: The company's operations and growth depend significantly on the expertise and continued support of its Promoters.
Expiry of Tax Benefits: Profitability may be affected after the expiry of tax concessions available under Section 80-IAC of the Income Tax Act, 1961, and Section 140 of the Income Tax Act, 2025.
Past Negative Operating Cash Flows: The company has reported negative cash flows from operating activities in earlier periods and may experience similar cash flow pressures in the future.
Compliance Demands of Public Listing: Becoming a publicly listed company will involve additional legal, accounting, reporting, and corporate governance requirements, which may increase administrative costs and management responsibilities.
