Tesla has officially marked its entry into India with the launch of its first showroom in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). The announcement coincided with the company confirming ACKO General Insurance as its preferred insurance partner on July 15, 2025.
Tesla’s first offering in the Indian market is the Model Y SUV. Prices start at ₹60 lakh (ex-showroom). The vehicle will be available for booking through Tesla’s digital channels, with deliveries expected to begin later in the year.
As part of the partnership, ACKO will offer Tesla owners a digital insurance process. Customers will be able to get quotes, purchase policies, and manage claims entirely online. This approach is expected to reduce paperwork and offer quicker turnaround times.
The insurance products are expected to be tailored for electric vehicles, covering aspects like battery performance and charging equipment. Details of the coverage plans have not been disclosed, but they are likely to be integrated into Tesla’s online purchase process.
ACKO, founded in 2016, operates as a digital-first insurer. It offers motor, health, travel, and, more recently, life insurance. The company has previously partnered with automotive and tech brands for embedded insurance models, aiming to streamline policy issuance and claims.

The collaboration between Tesla and ACKO is an effort to simplify vehicle ownership for EV customers in India. With digital integration and EV-focused insurance offerings, the move supports both companies' operational rollout as Tesla expands its footprint in the country.
