The State Bank of India (SBI) has informed its customers about a temporary interruption in UPI services due to scheduled maintenance. This short downtime is important for SBI customers who regularly use UPI and digital banking services for their financial needs.

UPI Services Downtime on July 22

The scheduled maintenance will take place on July 22, 2025, from 12:15 AM to 1:00 AM IST. During this 45-minute window, SBI UPI services will not be available.

However, SBI has assured its users that they can continue using UPI LITE services for small-value digital transactions during this time.

What Is UPI LITE and How to Use It?

UPI LITE is a feature that allows small payments without entering a UPI PIN. This makes it quick and easy for users to complete low-value transactions. To enable UPI LITE:

  1. Download and open the BHIM SBI Pay app.
  2. Tap on the UPI LITE section.
  3. Load funds into the UPI LITE wallet.
  4. Once the fund is loaded, UPI LITE will be activated.

What Are the Maximum Transaction Limits of UPI LITE?

  • Maximum amount that can be added: ₹2,000
  • Maximum per transaction: ₹500
  • Daily usage limit: ₹4,000
  • Maximum wallet balance at any time: ₹2,000

Recent Technical Glitches at SBI

SBI recently faced technical issues on July 18, 2025, affecting UPI, IMPS, YONO, and NEFT services. These services were restored by 1:30 AM. On July 16, YONO login was also temporarily unavailable.

During such issues, SBI advises customers to use ATMs and UPI LITE for uninterrupted service.

What You Must Know About UPI LITE

UPI LITE is designed for ease and simplicity. You do not need a UPI PIN to make transactions. If you wish to stop using the service, you can disable UPI LITE anytime through the BHIM SBI Pay app.

Besides, you must note that UPI LITE transactions are not shown in your bank statement, as the money is deducted directly from the wallet. If you are changing your mobile device, make sure to disable UPI LITE first—this will transfer the remaining wallet balance back to your bank account. You can then enable UPI LITE again on your new device.
