RITES Ltd has received a contract from the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Bengaluru, for the construction and renovation of Government First Grade Colleges in Karnataka. The project will be carried out under the PM USHA (University Grants Commission’s initiative for upgrading higher education infrastructure) Scheme. The filing suggests that the order is valued at ₹46.82 crore, excluding GST.
The project was earlier considered under a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) model. It has now been converted into a turnkey contract. This means RITES will now handle the entire execution of the project, including construction, procurement, and overall delivery. The contract follows a cost-of-project-plus-fees structure.
The duration for the completion of the project is 36 months from the date of agreement. It covers multiple locations across Karnataka, where colleges will undergo both construction and renovation work. This is to improve the infrastructure of these educational institutions through centrally funded support.
Prior to this, RITES secured 2 other contracts. One is an export order worth $3.6 million from the African Rail Company for overhauled locomotives. These will be deployed in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Botswana. Another domestic order was awarded to the RITES-Aryan JV by South Western Railway for the redevelopment of Tumakuru Station.

The Karnataka college infrastructure project adds to RITES’s portfolio of public sector contracts. With a defined scope, execution model, and funding structure, the project is to begin following the formal agreement and will span 3 years.
