Tensions in the travel industry are rising following India's Operation Sindoor, with bookings to Turkey and Azerbaijan dropping sharply after both countries expressed support for Pakistan. The diplomatic fallout has triggered widespread cancellations by Indian travellers. 

Operation Sindoor: India-Turkey and Azerbaijan Travel Tensions Escalate 

Bookings to Turkey and Azerbaijan from India have seen a sharp decline after amid rising India-Pakistan tensions.

As a result: 

  • Flight bookings to Turkey and Azerbaijan dropped by 60%, according to MakeMyTrip.
  • Cancellations surged by 250% in the last week. 

As per news reports, MakeMyTrip has also announced discontinuation of promotions for Turkey and Azerbaijan

EaseMyTrip: 50% of Bookings Cancelled to Turkey and Azerbaijan 

News reports indicate that up to 50% of bookings to Turkey and Azerbaijan have been cancelled by Indian travellers.

EaseMyTrip data shows: 

  • 22% of customers have cancelled trips to Turkey
  • 30% of customers have cancelled trips to Azerbaijan 

Geopolitical concerns have a significant impact on travel patterns between countries. Both MakeMyTrip and EaseMyTrip data indicate a significant decline in new bookings and a surge in cancellations for the said destinations, reflecting a shift in Indian traveler preferences. The travel industry continues to adapt to evolving international relations and their subsequent effects on tourism.
