Indosolar Ltd, a solar cell maker backed by Waaree Energies, resumed trading on Thursday, June 19, 2025, after a three-year suspension. What was a "penny stock" until recently, opened at a remarkable ₹165.06 per share. This marked an astounding 1,600% jump from its last indicated close of ₹9.71, giving it a total market value of ₹686.71 crore.
Indosolar shares had been suspended from trading due to various procedural issues. The stock last traded in June 2022, closing at ₹3.21 on June 24, 2022. Before its suspension, Indosolar had been considered a penny stock since 2015. Its re-listing signifies a major turnaround for the company.
Indosolar's resurgence comes after its acquisition by Waaree Energies. The company had previously faced serious financial troubles, including insolvency proceedings started by lenders in October 2018 due to heavy losses. However, under Waaree Energies' ownership, Indosolar has shown a strong financial recovery. It reported a net profit of ₹55 crore in the financial year 2025, a significant improvement from a loss of ₹15.44 crore in FY24.
Upon re-listing, Indosolar's shares will trade under the ID 'WAAREEINDO' and are placed in the 'T' Group of securities. This means investors cannot buy and sell the stock on the same day (intraday trading is not allowed). The stock will also have an upper price limit of 5% for its first ten trading sessions.
Waaree Energies Ltd, the promoter, owned a significant 96.15% stake in Indosolar as of March 31, 2025. To meet rules for minimum public shareholding, Waaree Energies recently sold about 1.15% of its stake (4,76,495 shares) through an offer for sale at ₹10 each on June 5 and 6, 2025. Over 58,600 individual retail investors collectively own 3.29% of Indosolar's shares.
