The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), India’s largest hospitality enterprise, marked a remarkable year in 2024 by achieving an unprecedented 85 signings and inaugurating 40 hotels. This expansion brought IHCL’s portfolio to an impressive total of 360 properties, including an industry-leading pipeline of 123 hotels. IHCL’s growth was driven by strategic initiatives, such as reimagining its Gateway brand as a full-service upscale offering and acquiring a majority stake in the boutique leisure Tree of Life brand. The company also entered a brand license agreement for The Claridges, which began with managing its landmark property in New Delhi. These developments align with IHCL’s capital-light expansion model, which accounted for 75% of the year’s signings under its Accelerate 2030 strategy.
The Taj brand remains central to IHCL’s success, accounting for 19 signings in 2024. With a portfolio of 125 hotels, Taj’s legacy of world-class hospitality continues to attract demand from metropolitan areas, leisure destinations, and international markets. Taj was also recognised as the World’s Strongest Hotel Brand in 2024, underscoring its global prominence.
IHCL achieved a record of 40 hotel openings, spearheaded by the Ginger brand with 10 launches. New properties were added in picturesque locations like Munnar, Mahabaleshwar, and Jaisalmer while expanding IHCL’s presence in Goa and Gangtok. Key developments included a Taj resort in Puri and a SeleQtions hotel in Tirupati, catering to the growing pilgrimage circuit.
The Taj brand extended its footprint at prominent airports, including a new property at Cochin International Airport, complementing its presence in Mumbai and Bengaluru. An upcoming Taj at New Delhi airport further strengthens IHCL’s strategic positioning.
IHCL’s achievements in 2024 represent a significant stride towards its ambitious target of a 700-hotel portfolio by 2030. With a blend of luxury and lean luxe offerings, IHCL continues to redefine Indian hospitality on a global scale.
