N.R. Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, recently spoke about how artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way we work. He shared that he personally uses ChatGPT, a tool developed by OpenAI, to prepare lectures and speeches. Earlier, it would take him 25–30 hours to write a good lecture. But with ChatGPT, it now takes only five hours, making his work five times faster.
Murthy called this a big change in how professionals can improve their efficiency and focus more on bigger tasks.
Many people worry that AI will take away jobs. But Murthy says this fear is not true. Instead, he believes AI will create new kinds of jobs that need smart thinking and problem-solving skills.
He explained that the real skill lies in asking the right questions and giving AI clear instructions. In the future, programmers and analysts will work on more complex challenges, and AI will help them solve these challenges faster.
Murthy gave an example from his early career in the 1970s, where he used to write code "skeletons" that could be reused. Now, AI can automatically create these frameworks, helping many programmers write better and faster code.
He said that using AI is like having a tool that helps you do more work in less time, without replacing human creativity and thinking.
Murthy also talked about how people once feared computers in the 1970s. In Britain, bank workers even went on strike. But later, they saw that computers made work easier and created more jobs—jobs increased by 40 to 50 times in the UK and US banking sectors. He believes AI will bring the same kind of growth today.
Murthy sees AI as a partner, not a problem. If used wisely, it can boost productivity, create new opportunities, and grow industries. His message is clear: don’t fear AI—learn to work with it.
