On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, are expected to open on a muted note, buoyed by the positive trend seen across global markets. This comes despite a rally in global equities following U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to delay a proposed 50% tariff on European Union imports until July 9. In addition to this,a  flat start for Gift Nifty futures on May 28 indicating a muted trading session.

GIFT Nifty Today

As of 7:50 AM, GIFT Nifty futures were trading around 24,854, down 11 points, indicating a flat-to-negative start for domestic indices. This signals cautious investor sentiment ahead of the trading session.

Asia-Pacific Markets Climb

Asian equities opened on a strong footing, tracking Wall Street’s overnight gains. Investor mood brightened following President Trump’s tariff deferral, which eased immediate concerns over global trade tensions.

  • Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 1.06%, while the broader Topix index advanced 0.88%.
  • South Korea’s Kospi added 0.65%, and the Kosdaq gained 0.53%.
  • Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 edged up by 0.21%.

Wall Street Sees Robust Gains

U.S. markets rallied sharply on Tuesday as easing tariff concerns and a surprise jump in consumer confidence boosted risk appetite:

  • Dow Jones surged 740.58 points (1.78%) to close at 42,343.65
  • S&P 500 climbed 118.72 points (2.05%) to end at 5,921.54
  • Nasdaq Composite soared 461.96 points (2.47%) to 19,199.16

Dollar Movement

The U.S. dollar index dipped by 0.1%, following a strong move in the prior session. This pullback made gold more appealing for investors holding other currencies.

How Indian Stock Market Performed on May 27?

On Tuesday, May 27, Indian markets faced selling pressure in large-cap stocks, leading to a broad-based decline. However, mid-cap and small-cap stocks saw selective buying interest.

  • Sensex dropped 625 points (0.76%) to close at 81,551.63
  • Nifty 50 fell 175 points (0.70%) to settle at 24,826.20
