The Bima Sakhi Yojana, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of the Viksit Bharat initiative, has witnessed remarkable success within its first month. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) reported 52,511 registrations for the scheme, which aims to empower women by providing them with opportunities in the insurance sector. Out of the total registrations, 27,695 women have received appointment letters, and 14,583 have commenced their roles as policy sellers.

Key Features of Bima Sakhi Yojana

The Bima Sakhi Yojana is designed to empower women by equipping them with skills and digital tools to succeed in the insurance sector. As part of the scheme, participants receive a monthly stipend for three years along with commission-based earnings. The stipend structure includes ₹7,000 per month in the first year, ₹6,000 in the second year, and ₹5,000 in the third year.

Women agents under the programme can also earn additional income through commissions, which depend on the volume of business they generate. The scheme welcomes women aged 18 to 70 years who have completed at least a 10th-grade education.

Ambitious Expansion Plans

LIC has set an ambitious target of recruiting 2 lakh Bima Sakhis over the next three years. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of enhancing women’s participation in economic activities and fostering financial independence. By focusing on rural and semi-urban areas, LIC aims to extend its reach while promoting women-led economic growth.

LIC Share Performance

As of January 9, 2025, 1:50 PM, the shares LIC were trading at ₹855.65, reflecting a slight 1.52% decline from the previous day’s closing.
