Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co Ltd (KSOE), based in South Korea. The agreement, signed on July 4, 2025, lays the foundation for long-term cooperation between the 2 companies in shipbuilding and related areas.
The MoU includes plans to jointly explore shipbuilding opportunities in India and other countries. It also mentions sharing of technical knowledge, improving productivity, and increasing capacity utilisation. Both firms will work together to identify specific projects under this scope.
Another area covered in the agreement is workforce development. The two companies plan to collaborate on upskilling employees involved in shipbuilding. This may include training programmes or joint initiatives in skill development.
HD KSOE manages some of the world’s major shipyards, including Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries. The company is involved in building another range of vessels, from commercial ships to offshore infrastructure.
Cochin Shipyard has completed several notable projects in India. This includes delivering India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier. It also supplies vessels to the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, and commercial clients. CSL has delivered 47 vessels to international buyers so far.
The partnership is in line with India’s maritime goals under the Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. These policies focus on strengthening the country’s shipbuilding industry and increasing global competitiveness.

As of 3:30 PM on July 4, 2025, Cochin Shipyard shares price closed at ₹2,056.00, a 2.01% increase. The stock has gained 35.41% over the past 6 months but remains down 27.54% compared to the same period last year.
The MoU sets a framework for future cooperation between CSL and KSOE across multiple areas. It covers technical, operational, and workforce aspects of shipbuilding, both within India and abroad.
