Apple has assured the Indian government that its manufacturing plans in the country remain unchanged. As per CNBC-TV18 reports, the company reaffirmed its commitment despite recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump opposing Apple’s expansion in India.
During a business event in Doha on May 15, Trump said he had spoken to Apple CEO Tim Cook about the company’s decision to expand manufacturing in India. He stated, “I am treating you very good. But now I hear you are building all over India. I don’t want you building in India.” Trump added that he wanted Apple to build in the U.S. instead.
He also mentioned that India had offered a deal with “literally no tariffs” for certain imports, but made it clear that he preferred Apple to increase its domestic production.

According to Indian officials as per the reports, Apple has conveyed that there will be no deviation in its investment strategy. The company continues to see India as an important production base, especially for iPhones. Contract manufacturers like Foxconn and Pegatron have expanded operations in India under the government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
Rajoo Goel, Secretary General of the Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA), said India should continue developing its electronics value chain. He noted that India’s share in Apple’s global manufacturing is still relatively small, and external statements are unlikely to alter the country’s long-term goals. He pointed to the government’s new electronic component manufacturing policy as a step in the right direction.
Apple’s exports from India have seen major growth over the past year. The company is steadily increasing its local production, supported by incentives and ongoing infrastructure development.
Despite international commentary, Apple’s operations in India are proceeding as planned. The company’s manufacturing base continues to grow, with no change in its current trajectory.
