Nazara Technologies and the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) are changing the game, literally. The two have joined forces to launch gCommerce, a new platform that merges gaming with e-commerce. The idea? To help Indian game developers overcome challenges like low in-app purchase (IAP) rates and limited ad revenue while giving players a good shopping experience.

What’s the Idea Behind gCommerce?

Game monetization has been a tough nut to crack, especially for Indian developers. Ads only go so far, and not everyone is ready to splurge on in-app purchases. That’s where gCommerce steps in. By tapping into ONDC’s expansive e-commerce network, spanning over 10 categories, developers can now earn a commission on transactions players make during gameplay.

No awkward pauses, no clunky interfaces. Players can shop mid-game without skipping a beat, whether it’s grabbing gear or exploring new deals. It’s like turning every game into a virtual mall.

When’s It Happening?

The platform is currently in its soft launch phase and will be fully available to game developers by Q1FY26. And the market seems optimistic. Nazara Tech’s shares are trading at Rs.893.65, up 1.33% today, with a 4.27% YTD gain and a 9.30% rise over the past year.

Why Does It Matter?

For developers, it’s not just about earning extra, it’s about opening up scalable revenue streams. Nazara’s CEO, Nitish Mittersain, called it a game-changer, saying it enriches the gaming experience while empowering developers. ONDC’s CEO, T Koshy, added that it shows how versatile their network can be in connecting industries.

Conclusion: With gCommerce, gaming isn’t just about levelling up, it’s about making money. As this platform launches, it could shift how games are monetized in India, blending fun with functionality in ways we haven’t seen before. For developers and gamers alike, this might just be the start of something big.
