About Indus Towers

History of Indus Towers Limited

Incorporated in November 2006, Indus Towers Limited was previously known as Bharti Infratel Limited. In 2007, Bharti Infratel Limited, the Promoter, Idea Cellular Limited, Vodafone India Limited and Idea Cellular Infrastructure entered a joint venture and set up Indus Towers for the operation of 15 telecommunication circles in India.  In 2018, Indus Towers Limited was formed as a merger between Bharti Infratel Limited and Indus Towers, making Indus Towers Limited one of the largest telecom tower companies globally. As of September 2023, the company has more than 2,04,212 towers in 3,53,462 co-locations covering all 22 telecom circles. The primary customers of the company are Vodafone Idea Limited, Bharti Airtel, and Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited.

Business Segments of Indus Towers Limited 

There are various products and services offered by the company, as follows: 
  • Tower: Under this segment, the company deploys the passive physical infrastructure required to accommodate the active equipment, i.e., the base transceiver station, transmission link and microwave antenna. 
  • Power: Under this segment, they offer innovative energy solutions to power their customers’ active equipment in an affordable manner.
  • Space: Under this, the company finds a strategic location to place its passive infrastructure. 
  • Smart Cities: Under this, the company has partnered with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Dehradun Smart Cities (DSCL), Bhopal Smart City (BSCDCL) and Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) to set up smart infrastructure, such as CCTV camera, Smart poles LED lights, Variable Digital Messaging Board, Public Wi-Fi and Environment Sensors.
  • Tower Operations Center (TOC): This is a service the company offers, where end-to-end tower management solutions are provided.
  • Green Technology: Under this segment, the company offers green energy solutions.
As of March 31, 2023, Smartx Services Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company that offers optical fibre services.
