Over recent months, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) and mutual funds (MFs) have concurrently increased their stakes in certain microcap stocks, driving notable price gains.

This development reflects a calculated strategy, as these institutional investors collectively identified and acted on emerging opportunities within the Nifty 250 microcap index.

Microcaps on the Rise

An analysis of data from the Nifty 250 microcap index reveals a significant upswing in the stock performance of 10 companies. With both FIIs and MFs amplifying their stakes during the March 2026 quarter, the stock prices of these microcaps rose by 25% to 75% over 6 months.

Prime Focus, for instance, saw its stock climb 73%, from ₹179 to ₹310.

KRN Heat Exchanger and Refrigeration also performed well, with its stock rising 63% from ₹804 to ₹1,309.

Meanwhile, Voltamp Transformers racked up a 62% increase, surging from ₹7,102 to ₹11,513.

Institutional Stake Augmentation

FIIs and MFs have substantially increased holdings in these 10 firms. Prime Focus saw FII holdings rise from 3.35% to 3.67% and Mutual Fund holdings from 0.06% to 0.08%.

The investment scenario for KRN was similar, with FII stakes growing from 5.31% to 6.66% and MF stakes from 2.29% to 2.42%.

Key Performers in the Microcap Segment

Aether Industries recorded a 54% rise, thanks to increased interest from both FIIs and MFs. Lumax Auto Technologies saw a 44% increase, bolstered by similar stakeholder growth.

The Karnataka Bank also marked a 44% upsurge, indicating strong market enthusiasm.

Widespread Institutional Interest

Several other microcaps exhibited significant performance improvements. Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys stock surged by 43%, and Gujarat Ambuja Exports by 41%. SPR Auto Technologies also benefitted, experiencing a 29% increase in its stock price.

Conclusion

The notable increase in stakes by FIIs and MFs in selected microcap stocks underscores an intensified focus on capturing emerging opportunities. These strategic investments have led to significant stock performance improvements, marking an interesting trend within the microcap segment.
