As per the PTI report, in an advancement for the Indian defence sector, Adani Defence and Aerospace, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises has delivered the initial batch of 2,000 Prahar light machine guns (LMGs) to the Indian Army.
This delivery is significant, being part of the larger aim to produce 40,000 LMGs under the 'Make in India' initiative.
On March 28, 2026, Adani Defence and Aerospace marked a significant achievement by supplying 2,000 Prahar LMGs to the Indian Army much ahead of the anticipated timeline.
The 7.62 mm-calibre weapons were produced at the company's Small Arms Complex near Gwalior. This event, attended by key officials, underscores the emphasis on indigenous military manufacturing.
Adani Defence's CEO, Ashish Rajvanshi, revealed that the company managed to fulfil this part of the order 11 months ahead of the original schedule.
With the overall aim to supply 40,000 LMGs, the delivery programme was expected to span over 7 years. However, accelerated efforts promise a timeline of just 3 years to complete the entire order.
The official handover was marked by a ceremony at the manufacturing site, attended by A Anbarasu, DG Acquisition for the Ministry of Defence.
The event culminated with a send-off of trucks loaded with the LMGs, symbolising a new chapter in enhancing the Army's capabilities.
This development aligns with the government's supportive stance towards domestic defence firms.

It serves as a testament to the potential of private-public partnerships in meeting national defence requirements, paving the way for further advancements in defence production.
As of March 27, 2026, at 3:30 PM, Adani Enterprises share price on NSE was closed at ₹1,823.00 down by 3.37% from the previous closing price.
Adani Defence's successful delivery of 2,000 Prahar light machine guns to the Indian Army represents a vital step in the ongoing 'Make in India' initiative. With an accelerated timeline for fulfilling the broader order, this milestone strengthens the nation's commitment to enhancing self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
