Mutual Funds Add 4.05 Crore Folios in 2025; Nippon India and HDFC Each Add Over 50 Lakh

Nippon India, HDFC and Motilal Oswal MFs added most folios in 2025, with over 4.05 crore new folios boosting industry total to 26.35 crore.

In 2025, Nippon India Mutual Fund, HDFC Mutual Fund and Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund recorded the highest number of new folio additions among all fund houses in India, according to data from AMFI. A total of over 4.05 crore new mutual fund folios were added across the industry. 

Top Mutual Funds in Folio Addition: Nippon India Takes Lead 

Nippon India Mutual Fund topped the list by adding 56,54,366 new folios in 2025, taking its total to 3,66,85,791. HDFC Mutual Fund followed with an addition of 55,30,831 folios, bringing its total up to 2,76,59,139. Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund added 41,05,603 folios to reach a total of 1,21,19,704, placing it third on the list. 

The industry overall grew from 22,30,00,000 folios in December 2024 to 26,35,00,000 folios by December 2025, an increase of 18%. 

ICICI Prudential and Tata Mutual Funds Among Top 5 

ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund added 40,70,926 new folios, taking its count to 2,90,53,111, while Tata Mutual Fund added 32,15,053 new folios to reach 1,06,64,094. These five fund houses formed the leading group for folio growth in absolute numbers. 

Other Significant Gainers and New Entrants 

SBI Mutual FundPPFAS Mutual FundBandhan Mutual Fund and Kotak Mutual Funds were other contributors, each adding over 10,00,000 folios. Jio BlackRock Mutual Fund entered the top 10 with 12,41,451 folios in less than a year since its inception.

Notable Increases and Declines in Folio Numbers 

Angel One Mutual Fund recorded the highest percentage growth, rising 4.8 times to 1,92,628 folios, followed by Helios Mutual Fund at 196% and Zerodha AMC at 146%. Meanwhile, Quant Mutual Fund saw a decline of 6,22,713 folios, PGIM India Mutual Fund decreased by 1,75,212 folios, and Navi Mutual Fund saw a drop of 78,388 folios. 

Conclusion 

In 2025, Nippon India, HDFC and Motilal Oswal MFs registered the highest folio additions in the mutual fund industry. While some new and smaller players witnessed rapid growth in percentage terms, a few fund houses experienced a decline in investor folios.
