Major US tech firms including Meta, Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Netflix significantly increased their hiring activities in India in 2025, collectively adding 32,000 jobs as new H-1B visa regulations pushed their talent strategy towards local recruitment, as per Moneycontrol reports.
Amid tightened H-1B visa guidelines, Meta, Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Netflix closed 2025 having hired 32,000 new employees in India.
This represents an 18% year-on-year rise in headcount for the tech cohort in India. Their combined workforce in the country reached 2,14,000 during this period.
The hiring was largely targeted towards specialised roles in advanced tech domains such as AI/ML operations, data engineering, analytics, cloud infrastructure, and cybersecurity. Presently, there are around 3,000 to 5,000 active openings in these areas.
Hiring has been selective, driven more by capability needs than by volume. Roles linked to digital technologies saw demand surging by 25% to 30%. Unlike generalist hiring, firms are focusing on strengthening AI-adjacent capabilities.
Despite active interest in AI, roles specific to AI deployment remain minimal as firms continue expanding supporting functions like data and cloud systems.

In response to the revised US H-1B visa policy—which includes a $1,00,000 application fee and priority for high-skilled, high-wage applicants—US tech firms are diversifying their global talent pools.
With nearly 70% to 75% of H-1B visas traditionally allocated to Indians, these changes have prompted companies to prioritise India-based hiring. The HIRE Act and higher talent costs have made local India-based talent an economically favourable option.
Google announced a $15 billion investment to develop an AI hub in Visakhapatnam. Microsoft allocated $17.5 billion for AI and cloud infrastructure expansion.
Amazon committed $35 billion in India towards various businesses including cloud services. These investments underscore the firms’ emphasis on capitalising India’s tech talent and digital infrastructure capabilities.
FAAMNG companies increased hiring in India significantly in 2025 in response to tighter US visa rules and rising demand for specialised digital skills. With a focus on high-value roles and major capital commitments, these firms have strengthened their India operations both in scale and strategic function.
