GST Rate Cut: JLR Slashes Prices by up to ₹30.4 Lakh on Defender, Range Rover, and Discovery

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), part of the Tata Group, has reduced prices of its SUVs in India after the recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate changes. As per the news reports, the reductions, effective from September 9, 2025, apply across the Range Rover, Defender and Discovery models.
Model-Wise Reductions
As per the PTI report, the Range Rover will now be cheaper by ₹4.60 lakh to ₹30.40 lakh, depending on the variant. The Defender has seen price cuts ranging between ₹7 lakh and ₹18.60 lakh. The Discovery models are now lower by ₹4.50 lakh to ₹9.90 lakh. These figures are based on ex-showroom prices.
Updated GST Slab
Luxury cars earlier attracted 28% GST along with a compensation cess of up to 22%, taking the total tax burden close to 50%. Under the revised GST 2.0 structure, these vehicles now fall under a single 40% slab, with no separate cess. This lower taxation has directly resulted in reduced ex-showroom prices.
Industry Context
Other luxury carmakers in India have also adjusted their prices in line with the new tax regime. Mercedes-Benz India, BMW Group India, Audi India, and Volvo Car India have all announced similar price reductions. Volvo has confirmed that it will lower the prices of its internal combustion engine models by up to ₹6.9 lakh starting September 22, 2025.

Timeline of Changes
The changes were implemented immediately after the GST rationalisation decision. JLR stated that the reductions would be reflected in prices from September 9 onwards. The move aligns with the broader trend in the luxury vehicle segment, as manufacturers pass on tax benefits directly to customers.
Conclusion
Jaguar Land Rover’s portfolio of Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery SUVs will now be available at lower prices, with cuts ranging from ₹4.5 lakh to ₹30.4 lakh. The reductions follow the revised GST structure that has altered the overall pricing of luxury vehicles in India.
