Apple Plans to Manufacture All iPhone 17 Models in India

Apple will produce all iPhone 17 models, including the Pro versions, in India from launch, as per the Bloomberg report. This is the first time that every new iPhone model will be manufactured in the country.
Manufacturing Facilities
As per the Bloomberg report, production will take place across 5 Indian factories. Two new units, Tata Group’s plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and Foxconn’s facility near Bengaluru airport, are part of this expansion. Tata is expected to contribute nearly half of India’s iPhone output within the next 2 years.
India’s Iphone Export Performance
India has become an important export hub for Apple. As per the report, iPhones worth $7.5 billion were shipped from the country between April and July 2025, compared with $17 billion for the entire previous fiscal year. In the 12 months to March 2025, iPhones assembled in India were valued at $22 billion, making up about 20% of Apple’s global production.
The United States is the largest market for iPhones made in India. According to Canalys, 78% of iPhones exported from India went to the US by June 2025, up from 53% in the first half of 2024.

Tariff Concerns
According to the report, Apple is shifting more production out of China to address risks from US tariffs. The company has said it expects a $1.1 billion impact from duties in the current period. While smartphones have not faced blanket tariffs, policymakers in the US have repeatedly raised concerns about American companies’ dependence on Chinese supply chains.
The move follows earlier supply chain disruptions during COVID-19 lockdowns in China. Trade tensions between the US and China have since reinforced Apple’s decision to expand in India.
Conclusion
Apple’s decision to manufacture the full iPhone 17 lineup in India places the country at the centre of its production plans, reflecting a shift in global supply chain strategy.
