The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched the Aadhaar mascot, named Udai (उदय), to enhance resident-facing communication and simplify the understanding of Aadhaar-related services. The mascot is intended to make official messaging clearer, more accessible, and citizen-friendly.

UIDAI said Udai will act as a communication companion across different platforms. The launch reflects the authority’s continued focus on strengthening public engagement and trust.

Purpose of the Aadhaar Mascot

UIDAI stated that Udai will help residents better understand Aadhaar services and responsible usage. The mascot is designed to support communication related to Aadhaar updates, authentication processes, and offline verification methods.

It will also be used to explain selective data sharing, adoption of new technologies, and privacy-conscious practices. By using a relatable visual identity, UIDAI aims to make technical information easier to grasp for a wider audience.

National Design and Naming Competition

The Aadhaar mascot was selected through an open national competition hosted on the MyGov platform. UIDAI received 875 entries from across India, including submissions from students, professionals, and designers.

The authority conducted a multi-tier evaluation process to shortlist designs and finalise the winners. The competition was intended to promote public participation in shaping Aadhaar-related initiatives.

Official Launch and Remarks

UIDAI Chairman Neelkanth Mishra unveiled the mascot at an official UIDAI function held in Thiruvananthapuram. He said the introduction of Udai marks another step toward making Aadhaar communication simpler, more inclusive, and more relatable for residents.

The event also included the felicitation of competition winners. UIDAI leadership highlighted the importance of clear communication in maintaining public confidence.

Emphasis on Public Participation

UIDAI Chief Executive Officer Bhuvnesh Kumar said the open competition reflected Aadhaar’s core principle of public participation. He noted that citizen involvement helps build trust and acceptance of large public digital systems.

According to UIDAI, the strong response to the competition demonstrated the public’s connection with Aadhaar as a public good. The authority said such initiatives would continue to encourage citizen engagement.
