Poshan Abhiyaan, launched on March 8, 2018, is India’s flagship nutrition mission. Every September, Rashtriya Poshan Maah is celebrated to strengthen nutrition awareness, tackle malnutrition, and encourage community participation. The 8th edition was launched on September 17, 2025, with a vision to build a healthier and stronger nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah alongside the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan, aligning with Sashakt Nari and Suposhit Bharat. As of September 17, 2025, 14,02,248 Anganwadi Centres and 9,14,75,640 beneficiaries are registered on the Poshan Tracker App, ensuring real-time monitoring of nutrition outcomes.
The PM POSHAN Scheme, with a financial outlay of ₹1,30,794.90 crore for 2021–26, addresses malnutrition in school children, offering balanced meals across 11.20 lakh Government and Government-aided schools, benefitting close to 11.80 crore students.
Targeting children under 6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, the program addresses malnutrition through a technology-driven, community-centric approach.
According to NFHS-5 (2019–21), stunting in children under 5 reduced to 35.5% from 38.4%, underweight prevalence fell to 32.1% from 35.8%, and wasting stood at 19.3%. In FY2024–25, approximately 15.4 crore children and adolescents received Iron and Folic Acid supplements under national programmes.
These efforts reaffirm the mission’s focus on breaking intergenerational malnutrition, particularly during the first 1,000 days of a child’s life.

Launched in March 2021, the Poshan Tracker app integrates service delivery at Anganwadi Centres, identifying and mapping cases of stunting, wasting, and underweight. With over 14,02,248 centres onboard, the digital ecosystem supports data-driven decisions to improve implementation across states.
Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2025 focuses on obesity prevention by encouraging reduced sugar and oil consumption, improving infant and young child feeding practices, and involving men in caregiving. Initiatives such as “ECCE/Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi,” “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” and Poshan Vatikas harmonise health, education, and environment.
PM POSHAN, formerly the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, serves nutritious meals to students in Classes I–VIII across India. Inflation-indexed updates effective May 1, 2025, increased the material cost by 9.5%, raising the per-meal rates to ₹6.78 for primary and ₹10.17 for upper primary beneficiaries. The scheme improves school attendance while ensuring dietary diversity in daily meals.
Poshan Maah 2025 highlights India’s sustained commitment to tackling malnutrition through policy convergence, digital tools like the Poshan Tracker, and large-scale programmes like PM POSHAN. By targeting stunting, undernutrition, and anaemia while fostering dietary diversity, the mission steadily builds a healthier and stronger nation.
