The Mizoram government has approved a 4% rise in dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees. This revision applies from 1 November, taking the DA rate from 40% to 44% of basic pay. The decision was finalised at a council of ministers meeting chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, as per the news reports.
Next Increase Planned for April 2025
The cabinet has also cleared another increase that will take effect from 1 April next year. Under this step, DA will go up by 2%, moving from 44% to 46% of basic pay. This adjustment has been added to the state’s upcoming financial commitments for the next fiscal period.
Difference from Central Government Levels
As per PTI, a senior official said that even with the revised rates, Mizoram’s DA structure remains lower than that of central government employees. At present, central employees receive around 53% DA on their basic pay, leaving a gap despite the state’s latest updates.
Previous Changes to DA
In October 2023, the state had raised DA from 36% to 40%, marking the last major adjustment before the latest revision. The DA changes follow a consistent pattern of updates made to account for changes in prices and related costs faced by employees.
Allowance for Police Personnel
The council of ministers has also agreed to provide a special incentive allowance for police personnel in the assistant sub-inspector rank and below. This allowance will apply to those working on deputation under the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The decision covers staff currently deployed and those who may be assigned in future.
