Foxconn has started production of the iPhone 17 at its new Bengaluru facility in Devanahalli, as per news reports. The plant, set up with an investment of $2.8 billion (about ₹25,000 crore), is the company’s 2nd-largest manufacturing site outside China. This output adds to ongoing iPhone 17 production at Foxconn’s Chennai unit.
As per reports, Initial operations faced interruptions when several Chinese engineers returned home unexpectedly. To fill the gap, Foxconn brought in experts from Taiwan and other regions. Production has since resumed.
Apple is planning to increase its iPhone production in India to about 60 million units this year, as per a PTI report. This is higher than the 35-40 million units produced in FY24-25. For the year ending March 31, 2025, Apple assembled iPhones worth nearly $22 billion in India, marking a 60% rise compared to the previous year.

Exports from India in March 2025 were 3.1 million units, indicating the need for higher shipments through added capacity or reallocation of domestic supplies.
As per the reports, Apple’s domestic supplies rose 21.5% year-on-year to 5.9 million units in the first half of 2025. The iPhone 16 was the most-shipped model in the period. In the June quarter, shipments increased 19.7% year-on-year, giving Apple a 7.5% market share. Vivo led the Indian smartphone market with a 19% share, according to IDC.
The start of operations at Foxconn’s Bengaluru unit adds new capacity to Apple’s supply chain in India. Rising exports and steady domestic growth underline the country’s increasing role in iPhone production.
