Adani Group has announced its intention to restart the Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, signalling a potential boost to the country’s motorsport profile.
As per news reports, Karan Adani, managing director of Adani Cement, confirmed on February 21, 2026, that the conglomerate is actively pursuing the revival of the Formula 1 event.
He highlighted personal enthusiasm for the sport since 2000 and described India’s growing fan base as a key factor in the plan.
The circuit was originally built and owned by the Jaypee Group, specifically Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL) and its sports subsidiary.
Financial distress led to the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority taking control of the land around 2019. The venue hosted Formula 1 races in 2011, 2012 and 2013 before a tax dispute halted the event.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya recently visited the circuit and met YEIDA officials to discuss the project.
In November 2025, Adani Group secured the majority lenders’ vote for a takeover of debt‑laden Jaiprakash Associates, proposing a ₹14,535‑crore deal that offered a higher upfront payment than competing bids.
The 3‑year stint of Formula 1 at the Buddh Circuit attracted international attention but ended due to a classification dispute by the Uttar Pradesh government, which labelled the race as entertainment rather than sport. No further races have been held since the 2013 edition.
Adani Group’s pursuit of the Buddh International Circuit involves a significant acquisition proposal and active discussions with government officials. The plan aims to re‑establish India as a host for Formula 1, building on the circuit’s earlier experience.
