In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh government has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat by ₹160 per quintal.

Additionally, the government has approved 35 proposals aimed at supporting farmers and enhancing infrastructure.

The cabinet meeting, held on March 23, 2026, focused on bolstering the agricultural economy and supporting the state's growth initiatives.

Boosting Farmer Support Through Wheat MSP Increase

The cabinet's decision to hike the wheat MSP by ₹160 per quintal aims to provide crucial economic relief to farmers in Uttar Pradesh as they prepare for the upcoming procurement season.

Wheat procurement is set to commence on March 30, 2026, and will conclude on June 15, 2026. This extensive operation will involve 6,500 centres across all 75 districts of the state, ensuring broad access for farmers.

The procurement process will be facilitated by 8 agencies, including the Food Corporation of India (FCI), UP Mandi Parishad, and NAFED among others. The expanded network is intended to streamline purchase operations and enhance farmer accessibility.

Infrastructure Development and Farmer Initiatives

Apart from the MSP hike, the cabinet approved several notable infrastructure projects. This includes the construction of an International Exhibition Center in Lucknow, expected to cost ₹1,435 crore.

The centre will feature a convention hall with a seating capacity of 10,000 people, presenting significant potential for boosting the region's economic and tourism activities.

In Sambhal district, an Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Centre has been greenlit, further supported by the Uttar Pradesh Multi-Modal Logistics Park 2024 policy.

Additionally, the tender process for a logistics warehouse in Greater Noida has been cleared.

Navyug Palika Yojana

The cabinet also moved forward with the “Navyug Palika Yojana”, intended to develop district headquarters into smart urban centres in 58 districts that do not already have municipal corporations.

This initiative forms an essential part of the state's overarching policy to modernise urban governance and infrastructure.

Conclusion

The Uttar Pradesh government's recent cabinet decisions highlight a targeted focus on agricultural support and infrastructural development. By increasing the wheat MSP and approving various development projects, the state aims to bolster the economic viability for farmers and enhance regional growth prospects.
