The Sthree Suraksha Scheme is a Kerala government welfare pension designed to support eligible women with a monthly assistance of ₹1,000. However, the scheme is closely monitored, and providing false or misleading information to receive the benefit can lead to serious financial and legal consequences.

The government has made it clear that only genuinely eligible women should benefit, and violations will not be treated lightly.

What is the Financial Penalty for False Claims for Sthree Suraksha Scheme?

The most immediate consequence of submitting false details under the Sthree Suraksha Scheme is full recovery of the amount received.

If a woman is found to have obtained the pension undeservedly, she will be required to repay the entire amount paid to her under the scheme. In addition to this, the government levies an interest rate of 18% on the recovered sum. This significantly increases the financial burden and makes false claims extremely costly.

Legal Action Under BNS and IPC

Providing incorrect information in a government welfare application is a criminal offence. Under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), knowingly giving false information to a public servant can lead to imprisonment and/or a fine.

If authorities establish that the act was done with the intention of cheating the government for financial gain, it may be treated as fraud. In such cases, penalties can include jail terms ranging from six months to seven years, depending on the severity and intent.

Since the application process involves a self-attested declaration, submitting false details also amounts to giving false evidence. This is punishable under law and can invite additional legal consequences.

Permanent Disqualification From the Sthree Suraksha Scheme

Once detected, the applicant is permanently disqualified from the Sthree Suraksha Scheme. The government uses Aadhaar-linked verification and ration card data to cross-check eligibility.

Any change in ration card category or discovery of government or quasi-government employment can automatically trigger alerts in the system, leading to cancellation and recovery proceedings.

Eligibility Checklist to Avoid Penalties

To remain compliant and avoid penalties, applicants must ensure they meet all eligibility conditions:

  • Age between 35 and 60 years
  • Permanent resident of Kerala
  • Holder of Yellow (AAY) or Pink (PHH) ration card
  • Not receiving any other pension, including widow, disability, EPF, or government pensions

Conclusion

While the ₹1,000 monthly assistance under the Sthree Suraksha Scheme offers meaningful support, attempting to secure it through false information can result in heavy financial losses, legal action, and permanent disqualification. Eligible applicants should ensure complete accuracy while applying, as the government’s verification systems are designed to detect discrepancies.

Being truthful is not just a legal requirement, but it is the safest way to continue receiving benefits without risk.
