The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) announced an extension of the deadline for its SUNIYO property tax waiver scheme till February 28, 2026, allowing owners to settle dues for the financial year 2020‑21 and earlier without interest or penalties, as per news reports.

Extension Details and Eligibility

Taxpayers can obtain a full waiver on property tax, interest and penalties for the financial year 2020‑21 and earlier by paying only the principal amount for the current year and the years 2020‑21 to 2024‑25.

The late fee remains unchanged at 5% for payments made between January 1, 2026, and January 31, 2026. The mayor urged all property owners to use the SUNIYO scheme to clear outstanding dues by February 28, 2026.

Collection Statistics to Date

As of February 1, 2026, 1,78,923 taxpayers have used the scheme, contributing ₹1,032.91 crore in property tax.

Residential properties accounted for ₹200.45 crore collected from 1,28,802 units, while non residential properties contributed ₹832.45 crore from 50,121 units. Additionally, 96,169 new taxpayers paid ₹367.26 crore for the first time under the scheme.

Total Tax Revenue for the Current Financial Year

The overall tax collection for the current financial year, including payments under SUNIYO, reached ₹2,828.49 crore from 12,62,977 taxpayers.

This figure reflects the combined contributions of existing and new property owners who have settled their dues within the extended period.

Key Takeaways

The deadline extension provides an opportunity for property owners to regularise past dues without additional charges. The unchanged late fee of 5% and the substantial amount already collected indicate active participation in the scheme.

Conclusion

The MCD extension of the SUNIYO property tax waiver deadline maintains the 5% late fee and has resulted in ₹1,032.91 crore collected from 1,78,923 taxpayers, with total revenue for the year standing at ₹2,828.49 crore.
