The Maharashtra government has intensified verification checks under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, setting a final deadline for beneficiaries to complete mandatory e-KYC or risk losing access to monthly financial assistance.

Final Deadline and Eligibility Check

As per The NDTV report, Beneficiaries who fail to complete e-KYC verification by April 30 will be removed from the scheme and will no longer receive the ₹1,500 monthly transfer.

The verification drive was initiated following the identification of irregularities in the beneficiary database.

Irregularities And Data Clean-Up

Authorities flagged around 26 lakh ineligible beneficiaries, including cases where men were incorrectly receiving benefits and instances where more than two women from the same household were enrolled, exceeding scheme limits.

Earlier, a large-scale clean-up had already led to the removal of approximately 68 lakh accounts after they did not complete verification before the March deadline, reducing the total number of beneficiaries significantly.

Fiscal Impact and Budget Adjustment

The tightening of eligibility norms has also been reflected in budget allocation. The state has earmarked ₹26,000 crore for the scheme in FY27, lower than the ₹36,000 crore allocated in the previous year, aligning expenditure with the revised beneficiary base.

Implementation And Final Opportunity

The government has clarified that this is the last extension for completing e-KYC, despite multiple earlier deadlines since late 2025.

Beneficiaries can complete the process online using Aadhaar-linked authentication, while those with discrepancies in personal or banking details must rectify them before the deadline to continue receiving benefits.

Conclusion

The verification drive marks a shift towards stricter targeting and accountability in welfare delivery, with the state aiming to eliminate leakages while ensuring benefits reach eligible recipients.
