Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd has emerged as the successful bidder for an intra-state transmission project in Maharashtra under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route. The company said it received the Letter of Intent on February 11, 2026.
The project is titled Network Expansion Scheme in Maharashtra for Removal of Transmission Constraints in Pune Region-I (765/400 kV AIS Pune East). It will be implemented on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis, a model used for transmission projects awarded through competitive bidding.
Under this structure, the developer builds and operates the asset for a fixed period before transferring it to the designated utility. Such projects are awarded based on the tariffs quoted by bidders.
The scheme involves setting up a new air-insulated switchgear (AIS) substation in Ahilyanagar district. It also includes the construction of 765 kV and 400 kV transmission lines within the state. Bay extension works are planned at existing substations as part of the project.
The infrastructure is centred around the Pune East node, which is expected to act as a key point in the regional grid once the project is completed.
