
NTPC Ltd, a central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has shared details of its nuclear power expansion plans as part of India’s long term energy capacity framework, according to information tabled in Parliament.
As per the statement dated February 5, 2026, NTPC is planning to develop 30 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047. This forms part of the Government of India’s broader objective of achieving 100 GW of nuclear capacity within the same timeline.
Anu Shakti Vidyut Nigam Limited, a joint venture between NTPC Ltd and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, is in the process of setting up a 4×700 MW nuclear power project in Banswara district of Rajasthan. The project is titled Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project.
The Mahi Banswara project involves 4 nuclear units of 700 MW each. Current projections indicate initial testing of the first 700 MW unit during FY 2032,33, based on information shared with the Lok Sabha.
NTPC has also incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary named NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam Limited. The entity was registered on January 7, 2025, under the Companies Act after receiving the required statutory approvals.

To examine technology options and partnership opportunities, NTPC has issued an Expression of Interest to explore possible collaborations with international participants in the nuclear power sector.
The information was provided by the Minister of State for Power, Shri Shripad Naik, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, outlining NTPC’s role in India’s nuclear power development efforts.
As of February 05, 2026, at 2:05 PM, NTPC share price on NSE was trading at ₹366.35 down by 0.25% from the previous closing price.
NTPC’s disclosed plans highlight ongoing institutional steps, including project development, subsidiary formation and partnership exploration, within the framework of India’s national nuclear capacity objectives.
