Nifty Smallcap 100 Slips 0.63%; Jindal Saw Leads Gains, MRPL Top Loser

Nifty Smallcap 100 declined in early trade while select stocks like Jindal Saw and Welcorp gained.

The domestic equity market witnessed mixed momentum in the smallcap segment during early trade at 10:07 AM. The Nifty Smallcap 100 index opened at 17,339.35 and touched an intraday high of 17,366.90 before slipping to 17,235.55. 

The index last traded at 17,252.25, down 110.05 points or 0.63% from the previous close of 17,362.30. Total traded volume in the index stood at 16.63 crore shares with a turnover of ₹3,347.23 crore.

Stock-wise Action

Jindal Saw emerged as the top performer, surging nearly 10% to ₹170 after hitting a high of ₹171.99, supported by strong volumes of 1.80 crore shares. Welcorp advanced 3.62% to ₹763.55, while Poonawalla Fincorp added 2.81% to ₹477 amid renewed buying interest. Mahanagar Gas rose 1.91% to ₹1,082.90 and IFCI gained 1.73% to ₹61.72.

On the downside, MRPL declined 3.87% to ₹145.40, becoming the biggest loser among the tracked counters. Swan Energy slipped 3.03% to ₹420.70, while Ola Electric fell 3.01% to ₹36.12. Triveni Turbine and HBL Engineering also remained under pressure with losses of 2.78% and 2.66% respectively.

Smallcap Indices Performance

The smallcap segment witnessed a mild decline in early trade. The Nifty Smallcap 250 index was trading at 16,109.95, down 97.35 points or 0.60%, while the Nifty Smallcap 50 index was at 8,491.90, down 13.45 points or 0.16%.

Conclusion

Smallcap trading reflected cautious sentiment with the benchmark under mild pressure despite strong individual movers. Industrial stocks attracted momentum, whereas oil and select technology names witnessed consolidation. Investors are likely to track broader market cues and upcoming earnings for direction in the segment.
